Procrastination is a huge problem in the life of millions of students who aspire to achieve something great in their life. On the other hand, Discipline is the key which can lead an individual to the heights of success but one lacks it. So, here is the complete guide to beat procrastination and master self-discipline.

The vlog might get a little longer so stick to your seat tightly.

Essentialism

We have lots of stuff going on in our minds on which we have to work and finish. We may have certain goals in our life that we have to work hard for.

But the first step is to prioritize your most important goal and then start working on it, and this way you'll have more clarity in your life.

The perfect day

Before we start working, we have to plan our perfect day, if things were like this how would I have planned my day? This way now you can pick up that schedule and try applying it in your current daily life and see to what extent it cooperates with your life and accordingly you can make necessary changes.

The power of three rule

Here are the three rules which are very important and play a big role in one's success

Make a task list- Identify the 3 most important tasks for the day and make sure to make this list night before so that when you wake up the next day you don't have to waste time thinking about what to do next, and you can directly go to your desk and start with your work.

Pareto's Principle- states that 80% of the result of your work is from the 20% of work that has been done, so prioritize that 20% of your task which affects the 80% of your result.

Effectiveness- do your tasks effectively without any distractions or multitasking.

Daily Habits

When habits sink into your subconscious mind you start doing them automatically without giving much thought to it. Just take the example of brushing your teeth, that's the first thing usually a person does in the morning without even thinking about it or planning beforehand. Some of the habits to inculcate in your daily life are:

Plan your day- plan your day on the night before

Read the news- give 15 mins of your day at least to get to know what's going on in the world

Studying- make studying your habit, set times in your day when you only have to study

Accountability

Hold yourself accountable for your acts, do not blame the environment or others for your failure and try to find the point where you lacked. The best practice of accountability is to make a grading system and mark your work accordingly.

The performance review

There are three steps to review your performance-

  • Review your day's performance- If there is any place where you wasted time, then find a reason why you did it so you can avoid it the next day.

  • Review your grades- Always review your marks, why you're lacking or what reason for getting such good marks always review why you scored such a particular mark.

  • Review your goals- Review your goals and your performance in achieving those goals and prioritize your tasks accordingly.

The perils of Pseudo-Studying

There are times when we just pretend to be studying like sitting with a laptop and textbook but not retaining any information from the point of view of the exam.

You are not forced by anyone to do self-study but it's you who should be motivating us to study.

Steps to avoid Pseudo-Studying:

  • Take a break

  • Study no longer than 3 hours

  • Get enough sleep, eat healthily

  • Study in morning

  • Study in a quiet & distraction-free place

The power of a nap

A nap during the day of 30 mins can take our efficiency to another level.

The stimulation Equation

We should study with the notion in our brain that 'we want to study, rather than that we have to study'. Because when you start liking your work you do it with all your heart ad you give your best.

How to make your work/studying interesting:

  • Think of studying as important and relate it to your life

  • See its relevance in your career

  • Study on the move(if possible)- if you get bored easily studying in the same place then take chances to study at different places like different places in your house, library or a coffee shop.

  • The Premack Principle- this means that you should reward yourself whenever you achieve a tiny part of your goal. But that goal shouldn't distract you from your goal.

  • Sing your study(if applicable)- you can sing your studies or make mnemonics like accounting standards or sections in law subject or periodic table and many more

  • Formal learning vs informal learning- think of your studies as a 9 to 5 job, so you do it formally and be more serious about it, this gives you a sense of responsibility and gives you a sense of belongingness to your imaginary community.

  • Study with friends- this can boost your studies and take them to another level if you have the right friends who are more serious towards their studies and this can act as motivation for you to study when you're feeling low.

  • Dig deeper into your subject- to make your subject interesting take the help of the internet and do a little digging and research about your topic so that when you go through your textbook you have some background knowledge.

  • Flashcards(if it applies to your subject)- are a great help for active recall and help in instant revision

  • Participate in class- this plays a huge role academically and also personally in your life, making you more confident and overcoming the fear of public speaking

Dynamic Studying

When you've been studying a single subject for long hours and feel that you can't retain it or getting bored, then you can use the method of dynamic studying in which you study different subjects for shorter periods. This helps in retaining what you've studied and also makes your studying more fun.

The optimized study space

The most important thing is to have an optimized study space of your own, where you can study without any disturbance or distractions. Associate this place with your studies and do all sorts of fun or relaxing activities outside this place, (like study lamp- turn it on only when you're studying so it gives your brain a signal, now it's time to study).

The productivity device

The one device which can boost your productivity is our PHONE. Yes, there are tons of apps and things through which we can regulate our life and be productive in our work and studies. There are lots of videos on YT where people talk about productivity apps.

The power of the word NO

Learn to say NO to people when you know that they're hindering your studies, whether it's going for a coffee or a walk or even helping them with their studies. Remember that your most important task should always be the most important no matter what comes. Keep your phones silent and don't pick up any call while studying until it is some kind of emergency.

Procrastinate Productivity

We often don't want to study, so we procrastinate by scrolling through reels or shorts instead of studying. Here's a better alternative to that, when you want to take a break, taking a break is not a problem at all but you can procrastinate productively by watching some educational content like a documentary related to your subject or some good Youtube videos about life & growth.

The white flag

We should study 7 days a week and not take weekends off just because we can. Instead, take a day off when you're productive and can't focus once or twice a month. This will make you stand out.

If you've read it all long till, congratulations you've taken the first step towards making your life more organized and professional. The above mentioned steps are highly practical and can be applied easily in a student's life.
